| HAPPY BIRTHDAY MR. TURING |
[23 Jun 2006|06:44pm] |

FROM WIKIPEDIA: Alan Mathison Turing (June 23, 1912 – June 7, 1954) was a British mathematician, logician, and cryptographer. Turing is often considered to be the father of modern computer science.
With the Turing test, Turing made a significant and characteristically provocative contribution to the debate regarding artificial intelligence: whether it will ever be possible to say that a machine is conscious and can think. He provided an influential formalisation of the concept of algorithm and computation with the Turing machine, formulating the now widely accepted "Turing" version of the Church–Turing thesis, namely that any practical computing model has either the equivalent or a subset of the capabilities of a Turing machine. During World War II, Turing worked at Bletchley Park, Britain's codebreaking centre and was for a time head of Hut 8, the section responsible for German Naval cryptanalysis. He devised a number of techniques for breaking German ciphers, including the method of the bombe, an electromechanical machine which could find settings for the Enigma machine.
After the war, he worked at the National Physical Laboratory, creating one of the first designs for a stored-program computer, although it was never actually built. In 1947 he moved to the University of Manchester to work, largely on software, on the Manchester Mark I then emerging as one of the world's earliest true computers.
In 1952, Turing was convicted of acts of gross indecency after admitting to a sexual relationship with a man in Manchester. He was placed on probation and required to undergo hormone therapy. When Alan Turing died in 1954, an inquest found that he had committed suicide by eating an apple laced with cyanide.

| last day at the Depot |
[07 Aug 2005|12:20pm] |
well today was my last day at the depot. well technically today was, but i didn't even show up until 1hr after my shift started and i didn't punch in or actually work. i just went in to say goodbye to the people that i liked and to clean out my locker. now i have weekends off! for the first time in like 2 months i will not have to work 7 days a week!
so after i left work (without telling anyone in managment btw) i went to value village. i found an awesome red-with-white-stripes golf shirt, but i didn't try it on. it said it was XL but, no, it was too small for me. i think it might actually be an XL kids shirt or something. it has the cool little embroidered dragon-spitting-fire guy on it and everything. anyone want it?? free to a good home. i could take pictures but i am too lazy.

Final Fantasy & the Bar Mitzvah Bros. @ phog = Amazing!
i went to see these two acts at phog last night. today i called in sick to home depot because i got tired of working 7 days a week for like 6 weeks straight. the Barmiztvahs were really cool pop kind of like the moldy peaches i guess. i really liked their sound. but Final Fantasy blew me away! i have the CD and i love it, but it can't touch the way that he builds parts live. the bar was pretty packed and it was dead silent for evey minute that he was playing. then when he finished a song it got soooo loud from all the people cheering and clapping. it was phenomenal!
i think i may go to Value today with my afternoon off. good times

| New Job |
[09 Jun 2005|11:52am] |
Wo0T! i got a new job! starting monday i will be a "service and installation tech" at a place called Motion Specialties. They do custom wheel chairs and mobility-assist devices. i guess basically i will be driving around in a van most days and doing service calls to install grab bars and the like for clients and fixing wheel chairs. i'm pretty pumped. i've been looking for a full time job for a while now, and i wanted something that was a little more specialized than general labour. i may keep the Home Depot Job just on weekends, for some extra cash, but we'll see how that all goes. if i get tired of working at HD i can always quit. Motion Specialties is only during the week so it should work out pretty good.

this was a good weekend. tons of fun at the loop. wednesday is my last exam, and it's a hard one. i have been studying, but i also avoided it by making some "art" it's not really good or original, but i'm just translating the doodles that i do in the margins of my notes onto the computer. i think that i'm going to keep it up, i like it.
here's two of them:

i should study now.

[20 Apr 2005|11:37pm] |
i saw the most fucked up thing at work tonight: there was a little kid crying, he was in a cart and there was a group of adults with him. the kid wouldn't shut up no matter what they would do, so a guy that was with them grabbed a 10" brick chisel (that is essentially a 10 inch X 1 1/2inch diameter sharp metal spike!) and said something like "hey, see this, this is what bad kids get! right in the face!!" with a really heavy spanish accent. so. fucked. of course this made the kid cry more and the mother of the kid slapped the guy and cursed him out in spanish, then slapped the kid! i think that licensing child birth would be a good idea.

| Bill Brasky is a son-of-a-bitch... |
[11 Apr 2005|12:53pm] |
well, as of about this week, i have officially been 1 year single! I'd say i've had a pretty good time for the most part, but sometimes it would be nice to have somebody to talk to and umm.. well anyways, it's been pretty fun overall. i guess i could go out looking on for someone, but i think that it's best to just go with it and keep a cautious eye out for someone who i like. sometimes you just have to say what the fuck.
also, it looks as if there is no way that, financially i can go to school this summer. that sucks, but i'm trying to turn it into a positive by finding an engineering related job. i figure that's the best way to "stay sharp" and earn some money. so i've got about 2 years before school is over. :/ oh well. maybe i'll get a band going and do a tour or something, i've always wanted to do that. probably i'll move out of the house before i finish, that's the hope anyways.
speaking of bands, the one that i am playing with right now is fun and all, but it just seems like we aren't going anywhere, so i'm going to try and push for some more original songs that don't suck, or maybe just find a band that needs a guitarist. who knows, maybe john and i could get our duo thing going again.
in closing: "Bill Brasky is my son's godfather: true story. Old Bill shows up to the church in his golf shoes, covered head to toe in mud. He pushed the priest out of the way and said "I'll baptise that little piece of calimari" and poured scotch on my son's head. The kid is still blind as a bat to this day. Good ol' Bill Brasky, that sonofagun!"
"Bill Brasky had sex with my wife and gave me a video tape of it! it was Glorious!"

i was kind of hoping that it was a sick April Fool's Joke but it's out pretty much everywhere
"One time a guy handed me a picture of himself and he said. "Here's a picture of me when I was younger." Every picture of you is of when you were younger. Here's a picture of me when I'm older. How'd you pull that off? Let me see that camera"

APVH - Wolfslinger |
] |
well, today i went to get the transmission on White Lightning fixed. i took her to Mr. Transmission, and they checked the codes. it was a solenoid pack that had gone bad, so they changed it and now it upshifts!! wo0t. bad news: when they dropped the trans pan, there seemed to be some metal pieces in it. this is not a good thing. it looks like a bearing has blown inside the transmission itself. a rebuild on the transmission (not something that i can do myself unfortunately) will cost about $2000. that's probably more than or about what the van itself is worth! so now the plan : since it drives good now, we will be driving it until it goes then look for a new car sometime down the line or maybe look into getting a used transmission from a junkyard or something. we'll see what happens! so now i have decided to add a subtitle to the van's name: it shall now be called "WHITE LIGHTNING: TICKING TIMEBOMB!" also i think that i should add the following graphics to it:
yes i am an expert photo manipulator ;p (that's a bomb on the hood in case you can't tell!)
